Bus Mechanic wins Student of the Year Award

D & G Coach and Bus Ltd is proud to announce that Simon Baddeley has been awarded the Stoke-on-Trent College (Faculty of Engineering and Construction) Student of the Year Award for 2006/2007 - Highest Achiever for Heavy Vehicles, Maintenance and Repair (sponsored by the Institute of Road Transport Engineers).

Simon, apprentice mechanic at the Longton depot, has been employed by D & G for 18 months and is currently studying NVQ Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at Stoke-on-Trent College.  At 19 years of age he is the youngest member of the engineering team at D & G and its subsidiary company Choice Travel responsible for maintaining a total of 130 vehicles; although to be fair Simon does not maintain all these buses on his own he is helped by 16 of his colleagues.

Since September 2006 D & G has added a total of 40 of Super Low Floor vehicles to its fleet, which represents a considerable investment by the Company of over £1.5m. By December 2007 the Company’s average vehicle age will be 7.52 years and 78% of the fleet will be SLF’s.
